Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition whereby the lining of the womb called the endometrium grows outside of the womb on tissues such as the bowel, bladder, and even in the nose. This womb tissue still responds to hormones and bleeds creating pain and scar tissue.

The exact cause of endometriosis is unknown but it is thought to be a condition caused by excess oestrogen in the body, both endogenous or environmental. This is otherwise known as “oestrogen dominance”.

The symptoms of endometriosis include painful periods, painful sex, back pain, nausea, fatigue, tummy pain and infertility.

Your GP will refer you to a specialist to confirm a diagnosis of endometriosis. Conventional treatment for endometriosis includes medication, surgery and a hysterectomy. However, nutritional therapy can also help to manage the symptoms. London nutritionist Steve Hines has help women with endometriosis to manage their symptoms.
